This Virtual Chat is a must-attend!  Join us on September 11 at 12:00 p.m. as our panelists share their insight and answer your questions about the LSO’s post-COVID recruitment procedures.  

Our impressive panel includes Lisa Del Col from the LSO Experiential Training Programs Department, Fariya Walji, Assistant Director, Professional Development and Work Placements from Ryerson’s LPP Program, and Michel Lederman (Co-Director of Associate & Student Programs) from Goodmans LLP.

This event is free for Law school students who are Friends of the TLA. Registration is required to receive the instructions to sign in to the program.

  • Lisa Del Col, LSO Experiential Training Programs Department
    Lisa is a lawyer who graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School after obtaining her English and Communications degree from York University. After her call to the bar, she practiced at a full-service firm with a focus on family and real estate law. Realizing that supporting students was her real passion, she transitioned into the field of academic administration, holding various student services roles at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School. Following this, she worked in the non-profit realm overseeing a national justice education and mentorship program for First Nations, Metis and Inuit youth. In her current role, she supports candidates and licensees and works on programs and policies regarding the lawyer and paralegal licensing process in Ontario.

  • Fariya Walji, Ryerson LPP, Assistant Director, Professional Development and Work Placements
    As the Assistant Director, Professional Development and Work Placements at the Law Practice Program (LPP), Fariya is responsible for working with the Legal Profession to identify work placements throughout Ontario, as well as developing and implementing the Candidate preparation and support structures to ensure placements benefit both employers and Candidates. In her role, Fariya develops and delivers a number of Professional Development sessions each year to assist Candidates with application preparation, networking and outreach, in-placement success strategies, and post-placement next steps.

    Prior to joining the LPP, Fariya was Crown Counsel for the Ministry of the Attorney General (Ontario) specializing in litigation. During her career as an advocate, Fariya participated in a number of initiatives relating to diversity and inclusion, stakeholder engagement, and led the recruitment, mentorship, and professional development of students and young lawyers.

  • Michel Lederman, Co-Director of Associate & Student Programs and Interim Co-Director, Law Clerk Programs at Goodmans
    Working with Co-Director Ali Mirsky, Michel and Ali lead the firm’s legal talent and management efforts, responsible for all aspects of our student and associates programs including managing summer and articling student recruitment, liaising with the Law Society on student-related requirements and initiatives, professional development, lateral hiring and performance management.

    Michel and Ali also currently oversee and manage the firm’s law clerk programs, where they are responsible for the recruitment, training and development, and performance management of the firm’s Land Use Planners and Law Clerks across all practice areas.

    Michel is actively involved in a variety of the firm’s other initiatives, including diversity, mentorship and retention.

    Michel summered and articled at Goodmans before practicing litigation for several years as an associate. She received her B.A. from York University, her LL.B. from Osgoode Law School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011.

  • Jennifer Arduini, Associate Lawyer at Dutton Brock
    Jennifer articled with Dutton Brock before joining the firm as an associate in 2012. She maintains a broad insurance defence practice with particular focus on motor vehicle accident litigation, occupiers' liability, property damage disputes, product liability, prescription error claims, subrogation matters and general negligence claims. Jennifer has represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario. Jennifer is a Director of the Toronto Lawyers Association. She is also the Chair of the TLA's Young Lawyers Committee and she serves as a member of the TLA's Sponsorship Committee. She is also a member of her firm’s Articling Committee.
