Speakers:

  • Shaneka Shaw Taylor, Boghosian + Allen LLP
    Shaneka Shaw Taylor is a Partner at Boghosian + Allen LLP. Her practice includes municipal litigation, product liability, commercial litigation and real property litigation. She has developed particular expertise in litigating insurance coverage disputes on behalf of municipalities.

    She is an effective courtroom advocate having appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Alberta Queen’s Bench. She is trusted by clients for her efficient no-nonsense file handling.

    Additionally, she has extensive involvement in pro bono litigation work and community and charitable organizations including Pro Bono Ontario, the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Board, the Black Female Lawyers Network, Kingsway Community Life Centre and Food for the Poor of Canada.

    She has authored several articles and speaks regularly on topical municipal ligation and civil litigation matters including “The Annotated Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 and Regulations” (LexisNexis Canada).

    Shaneka was the 2016 recipient of the IMLA Canadian Scholarship and is a 2017 recipient of Precedent Magazine’s Precedent-Setter Award, awarded to rising stars in the legal community.

  • Christine Fotopoulos, Global Resolutions 
    Christine Fotopoulos joined Global Resolutions as a mediator, after a successful career as a partner with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP litigating complex, multi-party insurance, real estate and corporate disputes. She has practiced law for over 27 years developing strong relationships within the legal and insurance communities. Christine is uniquely qualified to mediate in a host of areas as she brings a wealth of legal knowledge and years of practical experience resolving a wide range of difficult disputes in a fair, reasonable and creative manner. Christine has appeared at all levels of trial and appellate Courts in Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada as well as having been involved in numerous mediations and arbitrations. This experience has reinforced her commitment to alternative dispute resolution. Christine has written and lectured extensively in various areas including mediation advocacy and ethics, professional negligence, financial regulation, professional indemnity and host liability and has been recognized by her peers over the years for her expertise in personal injury, commercial insurance and professional liability. Christine received her B.A. from the University of Toronto and her LL.B from the University of Western Ontario and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1989. Christine holds a Certificate from Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation: Mediating Disputes.

  • Charetina Lougheed, Regional Municipality of York
    Charetina is Senior Associate Counsel – Litigation with the Regional Municipality of York. She practices civil litigation on behalf of York Region, including municipal and police liability, insurance law, contracts and construction law.

    Prior to joining York Region in 2015, Charetina was associate counsel at a national firm in Toronto, where she practiced municipal law, product liability and insurance law.

  • Kate Mazzucco, Beyond Law 
    Kate is a founding partner of Beyond Law, and before that she was a partner at one of Canada’s top ranked personal injury firms. Her practice focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, disability insurance, product liability, medical malpractice, and long-term care home negligence claims. Kate is sought after as a speaker on a wide range of topics, providing CPD for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). She participated as a panelist in the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Justicia Project programs - initiatives designed to support the retention and advancement of women lawyers in private practice. Recently, Kate was involved in the development of the civil litigation curriculum for Ryerson University’s Law Practice Program. Kate is frequently called upon to provide commentary to the legal community and media. Kate has been featured in Law Times and The Lawyers Weekly articles and has as appeared a guest on the radio show “What She Said” and the Disability Channel. Recently, she has appeared on both The National and CTV’s Your Morning to discuss class action and mass tort litigation currently being handled by Beyond Law.

  • Natalie Kolos, Partner, BLG
    Natalie D. Kolos is a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she practises civil litigation, including insurance law, municipal and police liability, defamation and occupiers' liability. She frequently acts for municipalities, insurance companies and corporate clients in negligence claims. She also defends police services boards in claims alleging malicious prosecution, false arrest, negligent investigation, defamation, assault and breach of Charter rights. Natalie is a member of BLG’s Virtual Disputes Task Force.
