*Important message - TLA response to COVID-19*

Toronto Lawyers Association has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation and is taking the advice of public health experts.  We will not be hosting any live events until the end of April 2020, to support the social distancing measures currently being implemented.

TLA is proud of the intimate and social nature of our live education programs.  As a result we will be rescheduling this for a later date.

If you have already registered, your ticket will be honoured at the later date.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further updates, including decisions about  future events.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the TLA.

This program contains 90 minutes of Professionalism Content.

Law school didn’t teach you how to start a law firm. Yet in Ontario, there are over 52,000 lawyers who are either employed by a law firm (or organization) or self-employed. Some may have learned how to start a firm by trial and error.  But the wiser way is to learn from the people who have come before you.

Come and join our panel of entrepreneurial lawyers for a candid discussion on how they started their own firms and what they recommend for others, including such topics as:

  • The need to determine a specialization
  • Pricing yourself appropriately and knowing your worth
  • Consulting an accountant and other experts
  • Starting a firm within a firm
  • Having a long term view
  • Overcoming a fear of failure
  • Combatting loneliness
  • Getting clients and develop lasting relationships
  • Building a network
  • Communicating business with your client
  • How to recognize that you’ve reached a milestone and manage each transition

Speakers:

  • Areta Lloyd, Dickson Appell LLP
  • Jeffrey E. Feiner, Corman Feiner LLP
  • Roselyn T. Pecus, Roselyn T. Pecus Professional Corporation
  • Leslie Vine, Vine & Associates - Supporting The Business Of Law Firms
Moderator:
  • Marcus B. Snowden, Snowden Law Professional Corporation
