Justice-Robert-Sharpe

Join us for an evening with Mr. Justice Robert Sharpe of the Ontario Court of Appeal as he is interviewed by veteran litigator Guy Pratte about Justice Sharpe’s life in the law and recent book Good Judgment: Making Judicial Decisions. The Q&A format will permit you also to ask questions.

Good Judgment is based on the author’s extensive experience as a judge, lawyer, and law professor. The book explores the role of the judge and the art of judging. The author attempts to reconcile two fundamental aspects of judging: judicial choice and judicial discipline. The power of judicial choice is disciplined and constrained; judges are not free to decide cases according to their own personal sense of justice. This talk will have broad appeal to lawyers and law students as well as judges, adjudicators and scholars.
  • Mr. Justice Robert J. Sharpe is a supernumery Justice of the Ontario Court of Appeal and former law professor and dean of U of T Law School.
  • Guy J. Pratte is a partner in BLG’s Litigation Group and the Leader of its Appellate Advocacy Group.
  • Mark Gannage, TLA Board Director and Chair of TLA Education Committee, will be the moderator.
